Belle
Toute Lighthouse is situated on the cliff top about 2 km
west of Beachy Head.
It was built in the 1830's as a working
lighthouse but was replaced in 1904 by the Beachy Head lighthouse
as it was being obscured by fog. It has gained
fame through the BBC drama The Lives and Loves of a She-Devil
which was filmed there, and through a high profile move
from the edge of the cliff in March 1999. It is the only
residential lighthouse in the country. |
