The Towner
Art Gallery
The
building which houses the Towner Art Gallery was bequeathed to
the Eastbourne Corporation (the Council) in 1920 by Alderman John
Chisholm Towner along with 21 paintings. Today the Towner Art
Gallery contains more than 2000 works of art.
The
Towner is best known for its collection of British works of the
19th & 20th centuries.
The
Towner has exhibited many popular and exciting works of art, such
as works owned by Charles Saatchi which formed part of the infamous
Sensation exhibition and work by Turner Prize winner Gillian Wearing.
