Water Quality
The
European
Union's Bathing Water Directive (BWD) sets standards
of bathing water quality for all popular beaches in
EU countries. There are two standards - Mandatory, to
which all beaches must adhere, and Guideline, which
is the most stringent standard signifying excellent
quality bathing water. During
the summer period the Environment
Agency carries out tests of the quality of Eastbourne's
sea water between the Pier and the Wish Tower to check
it adheres to BWD standards - the results of these tests
are available to download below:

Temperature
Sea
water temperature is measured daily by Eastbourne Borough
Council's Meterological team. The table below shows
monthly averages in centigrade for 2004, 2003, 2002
and 2001.
