Eastbourne Awarded Best UK Resort Eastbourne is officially the best resort in the UK, according to readers of leading travel industry magazine, Group Leisure. Read by more group travel organisers than any other magazine in the UK, the award is voted for by tour operators, coach companies and social groups, and is widely recognised throughout the travel industry as one of the highest accolades a resort can achieve. Eastbourne fought off tough competition from Blackpool, Bournemouth and Torquay to win the most sought after �Best UK Resort� category, presented on Thursday evening at a prestigious awards ceremony by TV and Sports presenter John Inverdale at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London. Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor Ian Lucas accepted the award on behalf of Eastbourne and said �This is brilliant news and just what Eastbourne deserves. Everyone who lives here knows our town is the best in the UK, and it's great that it has now been nationally recognised.� �It is through the hard work and commitment of our in-house tourism team, matched by the quality of product offered by our business community, that we are the proud recipients of this prestigious award and our thanks go to Group Leisure readers for their kind support.� Eastbourne last won the award in 2001, which recognises assistance to tour operators and groups in providing excellent facilities for large groups, assistance in accommodation booking and up to date information and advice.
