Eastbourne - The Happiest and Sunniest Place in The UK Eastbourne has the accolade of the sunniest place in the UK and now in addition is one of the happiest places, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS). A survey was conducted last year which showed that Eastbourne residents are some of the happiest homeowners in the country. This is not surprising as the town is surrounded by stunning coastal and country scenery and with more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the UK. Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Carolyn Heaps said �It is no surprise that Eastbourne is one of the happiest places in the UK in addition to being the UK�s sunniest place and we are delighted about the accolades.� �Being the sunniest place in the UK means that we can put on an extensive events programme including the AEGON tennis, Eastbourne Extreme and Airbourne; as well as inviting residents and tourists to enjoy our beautiful seaside town.� Last year the weather had significant impact on the town�s tourism. During the hot weather accommodation bookings rose dramatically, beaches were busy and cafes and attractions saw a flurry of tourists. It is clear that both residents and tourists enjoy the town, from the seafront and South Downs to the list of events and of course the weather. Eastbourne attracts many families to enjoy the town both residentially and for visits. From the stunning views and surroundings at the Western View caf� to many family attractions and cultural sites such as the Redoubt Fortress, visitors and residents are pleased with the sunny town � with many visitors returning year on year. |
