Ding Dong! The Bells are Ringing in Eastbourne! Eastbourne is leading the way as the most popular place to get married in East Sussex with a 28% increase in the number of couples getting hitched this summer compared to 2010, with the sunny destination even offering the chance to get married at its Bandstand! According to figures released by East Sussex County Councils Registration Service this week, there has been a 16% jump across the county overall in the number of ceremonies performed in June, July and August this year compared to the same period in 2010. Eastbourne has seen the highest increase in ceremonies this summer with the town welcoming several new licensed marriage venues in 2011, including the Gold Room at the Winter Garden as well as the towns unique seafront Bandstand. Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said Im delighted to hear that Eastbourne is proving a popular location for couples to get married and Im sure thats down to the fabulous choice of venues we have here on our doorstep. Not only do we have the Mayors Reception Room at the Town Hall but we also have quirky venues like our historic Bandstand, as well as castles on the outskirts of the town. This summer Eastbourne Bandstand has been offering couples the chance to win their wedding at the venue in 2012 teaming up with local businesses to offer the ultimate wedding package, including bridal dress from Cutting Edge, photography by Kevin Sharpe, wedding night at the 5-star Grand Hotel, and honeymoon in Dolly the VW Camper Van from Eastbourne Holiday Campers. The competition is running until 30 September 2011 and the level of entries so far has surprised tourism bosses with more than 340 entries coming from across the globe, including South Africa, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France and the Netherlands. |
