V J Reunion at Burlington Hotel The Royal Sussex Regiment 60th Victory over Japan (VJ) Reunion will be held at the Burlington Hotel on the evening of Saturday 17th September. The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Graham Marsden will attend the dinner. The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Graham Marsden, says, �I am very honoured to have been asked to share in this important reunion. The fact that we live in a democracy is directly as a result of the sacrifices made by those whom we remember today.� Although the Japanese surrender took place on 15th August 1945, the 9th Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment provided guards, sentries and escorts for the surrender parade in Malaya on 16th September. Most of the attendees at the Reunion will be relatives of members of the 9th Battalion who were left in Burma.
