26,000 in Bank Holiday Motoring Magnificent Motors pulled in the Bank Holiday crowds this weekend, with 26,000 attending the free two day motoring festival on Eastbournes seafront Western Lawns. One of the biggest free motoring spectaculars on the South Coast saw more than 500 vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, buses, steam traction engines, commercial and military vehicles displayed on the seafront, including the oldest exhibit, a 1909 Brush Runabout. A vintage vehicle cavalcade opened the show with over 300 of the exhibits arriving in a procession along the seafront. Many car clubs also took part and joined in the festivities, including a group of Austin 7s, celebrating the centenary year of the Austin Motor Company. A French Market, live music stage, funfair rides, vintage bus service and miniature railway rides, ensured that all ages were entertained throughout the day. In the evening the Festival of Fire at Eastbournes seafront Bandstand proved very popular with 10,000 people enjoying the Maori style Poi fire dancing, fire breathing and African drumming spectacular. Organised by Eastbourne Borough Council, in association with the Eastbourne Historic Vehicle Club, East Sussex Omnibus Society and Fireflies, the combination of events and Eastbournes soaring temperatures proved especially popular with families, with family hotel rooms in short supply over the weekend. Eastbourne Borough Councils Director of Economy, Tourism & Environment, Norman Kinnish said Magnificent Motors weekend is proving to be very popular indeed. This weekend saw a wide variety of ages enjoying Eastbourne seafront, proving that there is something for everyone. It was great to see so many families heading to Eastbourne and the Festival of Fire proved very popular with young people, offering something very special and unique for the Bank Holiday. Magnificent Motors returns next year from Sunday 30th April to Monday 1st May.
