No new road No MRF
The Borough Plan sets out for a new road to be built from the roundabout near the Hospital.

Whilst a Material Recovery Facility planned by the County Council for an industrial site close to the railway at Tutts Barn continues to receive support, in principle, its successful development is totally dependent upon a new road infrastructure being implemented first. Leader of the Council, Cllr. Graham Marsden has emphasised this in a letter sent to East Sussex County Council. This followed a special meeting of the Cabinet held recently to respond to the latest consultation on the County Waste Local Plan and the County Councils responses to the Inspectors Report.

Cllr. Graham Marsden says, The proposal to site a Material Recovery Facility at Tutts Barn, next to the railway line has been accepted in principle since 2002. However, as far as the Borough Council is concerned, without the development of a new strategic road system, the likelihood of it being developed is remote.

Access to the site could only be via a new road and any attempt to use Kings Drive/ Lewes Road as the main access would be strongly opposed. The Borough Plan sets out for a new road to be built from the roundabout near the Hospital. The Council is also pressing for a new amenity site to replace the current one at St Phillips Avenue to be sited at the Tutts Barn site.
