Airbournes special Sunset Ceremony makes a welcome return this year, thanks to City Sightseeing Ltd, sponsor of the evening tribute event which closes the four day airshow on Sunday 15th August. Held at Eastbourne Bandstand, visitors can enjoy music from the RAF Halton Band, along with special flypasts from the Spitfire and Nimrod, as the sun sets on four days of fantastic flying. The evening begins with a flypast display from the Spitfire MK XVI at 8pm, to a World War II medley of songs made famous by Vera Lynn. The RAF Nimrod then closes the first half of the performance with a low speed flypast, just as the RAF lower their ensign and take the salute. After some rousing Last Night of the Proms music during the second half, the evening ends with a spectacular fireworks display from Eastbourne Pier at 10pm. Entry to the Bandstand costs 5 per person with tickets available on the door (or 4 for Eastbourne Leisure Card holders) and a licensed bar will be available. Airbourne runs from 12 15 August with free entry to see over 80 flying displays over the fours days, and is organised by Eastbourne Borough Council and sponsored by csma (Civil Service Motoring Association). Visitors can also enjoy arena displays, RAF Ground Display, csma Wings & Wheels exhibition & Route 66 Cavalcades, helicopter pleasure flights and childrens entertainment areas. City Sightseeing are also sponsoring the Spitfires performance on Saturday 14th August and will be operating their open top bus tours throughout Airbourne. The sponsorship came about as Steve Newman Managing Director of City Sightseeing Ltd, is Spitfire mad and as a pilot of a Yak himself, he is keen to be involved in the flying displays at Airbourne. Steve said I have a huge interest in the preservation of aircraft, in fact aviation of all kinds and with City Sightseeing being operational in Eastbourne we are pleased to sponsor the flying display and the Sunset Ceremony. City Sightseeing runs regular tours throughout the summer from the Pier to take in the breathtaking views of Beachy Head and the splendour of Meads and Old Town. An additional route also runs along the seafront to Sovereign Harbour. Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said It is fantastic that through City Sightseeings commitment to Airbourne, we are able to provide such a fitting close to the show, paying tribute to both the magnificent work of the RAF today, and the brave service men and women who have fought for our country over the years. Further sponsorship packages for one of the UKs biggest seafront airshows are available for flying displays, Radio Airbourne 87.7FM and the Park n Ride service.
