Ronnie Scotts regular and local Jazz Diva Liane Carroll is set to headline at the first ever Eastbourne Jazz Fest from Sunday 13th to Sunday 20th June. One of the UKs finest jazz talents, Liane offers a mix of modern jazz and rhythm & blues piano, along with her own unique singing style and off the wall patter. The new Jazz Fest which will be running throughout the week of the Hastings Direct International Championships, is being organised by Dukes Jazz Bar and Eastbourne Borough Council. Organisers hope to offer both local jazz fans and tennis visitors a vibrant mix of music throughout the week. Joining Liane on the bill will be Tess Garraway, classically trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, her voice has featured on the soundtrack of Tutti Frutti and feature film Billy the Kid, as well as appearing herself in musicals Starlight Express and Stephen Sondheims Side by Side. One of the few singer/trumpet players worldwide, Sue Richardson, will also be joining the line up, having appeared with many jazz greats and also as a finalist at the Marion Montgomery Jazz Diva Awards. More acts include Natalie Harmer, the Rob Pooley Duo, 3+1 and the Michelle Long Duo who will kick off the festival at Dukes Jazz Bar on Sunday. B-hut will also be providing some funky jazz fusion and local guy Big Al, offers a mix of 1950s rhythm & blues and rock n roll. Festival goers will be able to enjoy a free Jazz Party from 6pm on Wednesday 16th June at the Bandstand. The Bandstand also hosts an All Day Jazz Party on Friday 18th June costing 2.50 for the afternoon or evening session and the South London Jazz Orchestra closes the festival at the Bandstand on Sunday 20th June from 3pm to 4.30pm, entry costs 2.25. Norman Kinnish, Director of Economy, Tourism & Environment for Eastbourne Borough Council said Eastbournes first ever Jazz Fest, is just one of a number of activities which are now opening up Eastbourne to a younger audience. As the Bandstand music programme becomes more varied, we hope visitors of all ages will have something to enjoy from military bands to big band music, rock n roll and jazz. The first Eastbourne Jazz Fest is also sponsored by Bonners Music, Carlsberg, Alsford Timber, Sussex Life and Splash Point Records.
