Up to 200 Vespa and Lambretta scooters are expected to gather in Eastbourne on Sunday 30th May, at the resorts most famous landmark Beachy Head. The gathering is marking the 40th anniversary of Mod flick Quadrophenia, which despite being set in neighbouring Brighton in 1964, was in fact partially filmed in Eastbourne. The Quadrophenia Ride Out begins at the Beachy Head pub on Sunday at 12 noon, which is where the main character Jimmy, played by Phil Daniels, reaches a major turning point in the film. The scooters will initially head back down towards Eastbourne, re-enacting the shot in the film, which was claimed to be Jimmy returning into Brighton, despite the town being over 20 miles away. The group will then join the A259 coast road and head along the dramatic coastline of the Seven Sisters Country Park towards neighbouring Brighton. Eastbourne is a popular film and TV location, with a Victorian seafront and the highest chalk cliffs in the country making it unique. Its reputation as a film friendly town is rapidly growing with new enquiries nearly every day. Eastbourne has already been the chosen location for many filming projects such as Robin Hood Prince of Thieves where Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman famously landed on UK shores and the dog fight scene in Pearl Harbour to name but a few.
