Annual festival will bring art to the fore EASTBOURNE Festival will bring together performing and visual artists to showcase their work for three weeks from April 23-May 15. Started four years ago, the festival presents a varied range of professional and community performances featuring dance, music, theatre and visual arts across the town. Streets of Eastbourne launches the Festival on April 23 with a performance and information stand in Sussex Gardens from noon onwards. Theatres include a Feast of Fiddles at Eastbourne College, John Renbourn and Robin Williamson, Songs of Edith Piaf and a concert by guitarist John Williams at the Under Ground Theatre. At the Devonshire Park Theatre will be April in Paris starring Coronation Street�s Wendi Peters, and an Agatha Christie drama will be performed at the Congress Theatre. The Little Theatre, Cavendish School, will present a packed programme of theatre, music, comedy and art, including the Cavendish Art Trail, an exhibition celebrating the talents of past and present Cavendish students and staff. At Via Bar there will be a burlesque performance featuring music from the town�s top gypsy swing band Lackadaisy with the Boudoir Belles and cancan dancers the Pretty Little Horse Breakers. There is storytelling at the Lamb Inn and St Mary�s Church has a series of concerts including Practicall Musicke, Eastbourne�s period instrument ensemble specialising in early Baroque music. At St Saviour�s Church Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra and Eastbourne College Choral Society will be giving their annual concert. For the visual arts, the East Sussex Open Exhibition will be taking place at the Towner with other exhibitions around the town and many local artists and designer makers will open their houses, studios and gardens to showcase a variety of visual delights. There are also creative workshops for families at the Towner, Leaf Hall Community Arts Centre, St Bede�s School, Kings Church, Catalyst Arts, Community Wise and other venues around the town.The Fringe Festival presenting The Green Fayre, an up-to-date event with a green ethos taking place in Gildredge Park on May 7 from noon until 6pm.
